Finally out of a portal that almost got him killed, Irwin must find somewhere to hide—a place to learn about forging cards and about the mysterious sentient anvil he found. However, surviving is difficult in a forest filled with demons and monsters. Luckily, he isn't alone, nor as weak as he once was. With new cards slowly strengthening his body and a powerful friend, he sets out to one of the few safe places left in the world. Meant as a simple stop, he will soon find out that nothing is ever simple.

The young, sickly Irwin has seen nothing but bad luck in his short life. When his brother finally returns with a magical card for him, his luck is about to change. But will it change for the better? Irwin is sent off together with a group of youths to placate a group of sorcerers. With just the weird utility card gifted by his brother, he can only pray to stay alive long enough. Little does he know that this is the start of an epic journey that will take him across his world and many others, gathering friends, enemies, and power as he does.
