Summary

In the shadow of the Adirondack High Peaks, where the old-growth forest meets blackwater lakes, Ranger Luna sorts through decades of incident reports that never made it to public record. Each episode of The Adirondack Files is a standalone tale of the strange and the deeply wrong that occurs when the boundary between wilderness and civilization thins to nothing. These are not ghost stories in the traditional sense; they are accounts of misread maps that lead to valleys that should not exist, of hunting blinds that vanish in the fog leaving only a blood-soaked rifle, of a canoe that drifts out from behind an island with a single empty life jacket floating beside it. Luna reads from the files with a calm that only deepens the dread, her voice the only sound beside the crackle of a fire that does not warm. What unifies these stories is the sense that the Adirondack Park is not a place we visit — it is a place that watches, waits, and occasionally files a report of its own. Some files are marked CLOSED. Others carry a single handwritten note: 'No further inquiry recommended.'

  • The Night the Lake Held Still at Hurricane Falls — Fexingo Horror
    May 12 2026
In the summer of 2018, I drove up to the old fire tower on Hurricane Mountain, just north of Keene Valley. The ranger before me had left a logbook full of entries from hikers, but one name kept appearing — a woman named Claire who wrote the same date, June 14th, over and over, going back twelve years. I thought it was a prank or a misfiling, until I climbed the tower at dusk and found a tent pitched at the summit, with a sleeping bag still warm and a single page of notebook paper pinned to the floor. This is what it said, and what happened when I tried to return the page to the ranger station the next morning. A story about a lake that doesn't remember, a ranger who forgot his own name, and a woman who has been rewriting the same day for more than a decade.

  • The Bones at Birch Creek — Fexingo Horror
    May 11 2026
October 2022. A hunter stumbles on a human skeleton in a dry creek bed off a logging road in the Adirondacks. Luna drives out to the site with a forest ranger to identify the remains. The bones are arranged deliberately, laid out as if sleeping. The skull is missing. A week later, her neighbor's dog digs up a child's shoe in the same drainage. The shoe has a name written inside — a girl who vanished from a summer camp in 1975. Luna walks the creek alone at dusk and finds the skull balanced on a stump, facing her cabin. She does not touch it. She does not call anyone. She writes this down instead.

  • The Gift at Moosejaw General Store — Fexingo Horror
    May 10 2026
In the autumn of 2019, a hand-painted wooden sign appeared overnight in the window of the Moosejaw General Store, offering a free gift to anyone who asked for it by name. I was twenty-two, working the late shift, and I thought it was a prank from the high school kids. But the sign was nailed from the inside. And the gift was a small pine box, sealed with wax, that smelled like wet earth and something else—something that made my teeth ache. When I opened it, I found a lock of hair tied with red thread, and a note that read: 'You were always meant to have this. The rest will follow.' The store closed six days later, and I still see the sign when I drive past, even though the building burned down in February.
