Summary

Twelve days ago a deadly infection spread across the world. Populations have been destroyed. Law and order are gone. Life as it was known has ceased. The infected are now the strongest species, and survival has become brutal.

Heather has survived by hiding. Hiding is her thing. People are bad. What others do to survive is no concern of hers. On a mission for supplies, she makes a decision that not only places her in danger but will change everything she ever knew - or believed in....

Set against the backdrop of The Undead - the UK's best-selling zombie horror postapocalyptic series - Blood on the Floor is a haunting tale of courage and loyalty. Listen as a stand-alone or chronologically between parts 15 and 16!

It's not bad, and it actually gives a different perspective to the main story events. If I were to criticise Haywood for anything, it would be for overusing the expression "a moment captured in time". The narration though was my main concern. I understand the need to have a female narrator to make the female perspective of the book more relatable. It's just that there was little differentiation in tone between trudging through the countryside and battle scenes. Which was a strong point of the narrators of the main series, they would force the urgency of the situation upon the listener when the situation was dire, something that doesn't happen here. All in all, a good addition to the the undead series.

Nice addition to the series, performance lacking

It took me a while to get used to the narrator, but once I did it was great.
This is a great backstory on Paco and Heather and gives the much needed insight into what happened in the interim before they met up (again) with Howie and the gang. A much needed dose of the Undead after I finished the latest instalment of the main story.

Different but very enjoyable

Wasn’t sure about this one and initially didn’t really engage with the protagonist’s but really pleased I persevered!
Left me wanting more!

A good standalone

I have never written a review of anything.

I have had 10 or so audio books to date, and had mixed thoughts on it compared to reading yourself - value of (how can huge success authors like Peter Hamilton have such appalling narrators who you can’t get past their voices to submerge in the story - almost every review says the same.. doesn’t make sense)

I have read all of the Undead series up until book 25, utterly absorbed into that world and invested in it’s characters.. check every couple of weeks to see if 26 is on the horizon.. have read everything else Haywood has written - the latest WorldShip Humility getting close to as good as the Undead series)

I bought the free stand alone taster episode , no doubt issued to reel existing readers like me into getting the audio books - fair play, it is a good idea (though can’t you be a bit more generous with grouping the books together a bit - as has been done with the written version?? - 25+ credits is a hell of a lot to commit to..). The guy reading did a good job and made me realise the value of listening to every word spoken and coming alive - still, 25 credits..? It’s not like you can just buy the first few and stop..

I bought Blood on the Floor audio book as a stand-alone, instead of the main books, to give it a proper go and see if it would hold my attention for 7 or more hours..

What can I say to possibly communicate just how good this is..?

JUST BUY IT, SHUT THE WORLD OUT AND GET READY FOR A RIDE YOU WILL NEVER FORGET..!

Period.

Full stop.

Don’t even bother read any other reviews.

JUST DO IT!

Why?

An amazing, rich, enthralling, full-on yet tender and heart wrenching journey..

Rachel Hines has a voice so perfect to read out-loud, it’s like being wrapped in silk.. that is one moment one moment perfect English rose elocution, one moment total Cornish tones, all engaging, all enrapturing..

Whilst as a red blooded male I cannot lie and not say hearing a beyond sexy English perfectly poised voice say ‘f..k’ made my heart miss a beat every so often, I can say that she does not in any way trade or indulge on this inevitable impact and I can imagine women being as enthralled and engaged by her as much as - well, every man on the planet..

Rachel, if you ever read this - I hope you go on to narrate 100’s more books, yours is a rare talent.

An equal match to Haywoods’s

JUST. BUY. IT.
