I am a professor of psychology and an expert in self and social relationships. I’ve always been curious about how we can live our best lives by bringing our true selves to our everyday moments. My research focuses on both relationships and solitude, helping us understand how we can find everyday well-being. Solitude offers important opportunities for this, as do the important people with whom we share our lives. This research, conducted over 20 years, has won awards and received support from funding agencies across the globe. My work has been featured in media outlets including the Guardian, New York Times, Economist, New Scientist, and Psychology Today, among others. I have also recently appeared on BBC Radio programs and podcasts such as Hidden Brain and Talk Nerdy to discuss the topic of solitude.
