Miles was trained in Buddhist Insight meditation in a monastery in Sri Lanka in 1976 and has led silent intensive retreats since 1999. His teaching emphasizes present moment awareness and direct personal knowledge without prescribed beliefs or ideologies. Miles was trained as a professional mediator in 1989, and has taught conflict resolution and Conscious Communication Skills and worked as a Couples Communication Coach since 1990. He teaches people how to listen without judgment, assert their feelings and needs without blame, and negotiate solutions that address everyone's basic needs.
