Mary Knight is an award-winning author and a frequent presenter at schools and conferences around the country. Mary’s middle grade novel, SAVING WONDER (Scholastic) was the winner of the 2017 Green Earth Book Award for Children’s Fiction, a Parents’ Choice award, a Sigurd F. Olson Nature Writing award, and was selected as a Notable Book for Social Studies by the Children’s Book Council. Her second novel, WHAT THE SEAHORSE TOLD ME, is set in Hawaii and is garnering advance praise from her young readers and also, teachers, who are planning to use the novel in their classrooms. Mary can't wait to go on more author visits to talk about seahorses and turtles, Hawaiian mythology, and the power of friendship when it's infused with the spirit of aloha. On a personal note, Mary enjoys swimming, hiking, and playing a wild game of Uno with her grandson, Milo; drawing, going to plays, and dancing in the kitchen with her granddaughter, Zora; raucously cheering for her favorite college basketball teams; sharing the hilarity and sacredness of life with her long-time friends; and most especially, walking in the woods, reading poetry, kayaking, listening to music, and doing personal storytelling with her sweetheart, Jonathan. Together, they live in Lexington, Kentucky with their very polite cat. Mary believes that empathy is at the core of writing a good story, being a good friend, and creating a better world.
