Kagusthan Ariaratnam is a defense analyst with a background unlike any other in modern intelligence. His 25-year career in global security was forged on both sides of a brutal asymmetric conflict. Recruited as a child soldier, he rose to become an intelligence officer for the Tamil Tigers’ Military Intelligence Service, directing naval and aerial intelligence from 1992 to 1995. In a remarkable turn, he later served as a vital operative and military intelligence analyst for the Sri Lankan government’s Directorate of Military Intelligence, weaponizing his insider knowledge to combat insurgency. From 1990 to 2010, Kagusthan collaborated extensively with several international intelligence agencies. His unparalleled, first-hand understanding of counterintelligence, counterinsurgency, and counterterrorism earned him the prestigious Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies Award in 2003 for his contributions to the Global War on Terrorism. Now based in Canada, Kagusthan holds a BA (Honours) in Communication from the University of Ottawa and leads Project O Five Ltd. Through his writing, he pulls back the curtain on the shadow world of espionage, providing readers with a rare, deeply authentic perspective on global strategy, security, and the raw human cost of war.
