Erika Cohen was originally born in England, raised in Canada, and moved to the United States to pursue an acting career. She attended and graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. After graduation she grew frustrated that the roles for black women were shrinking and started writing for herself. Her first piece, Erika Cohen is The Crazy Black Woman was chosen for NAACP's 10-minute play festival and was touted as being original, truthful and extremely funny. She realized she was onto something and created Sistahs Ink Productions whose mission is to create, develop and produce project for women of all colors and ages; thereby creating a sisterhood of positive change and growth . Their first production was about inspirational women and Unsung Sheroes was born. The last show prior to the pandemic, Unsung Sheroes: Anarcha, Ellen and Shirley, garnered an award, good reviews and audiences wanting more would have to wait. Since the pandemic put a hold on things socially, she continued to research more Unsung Sheroes but also dabbled in her other love, food. One couldn't grow up in her mother's household and not have a love of food. Although a trained chef she could only duplicate some of her dishes and wanted to do more. She decided to honor her mother's cooking by recording her recipes in book form as a surprise. As soon as she could she traveled to Canada to do exactly that. She spent 3 weeks cooking with her mother documenting her recipes. She returned home to complete the cookbook and surprised her mother with a copy. This is her first attempt at a cookbook and hope you enjoy the recipes and stories of her childhood.
