Anna Kahill is the pen name of an Irish survivor, mother, and late-diagnosed autistic woman from Northern Ireland whose memoir Not the Perfect Victim emerged from years of silence, therapy, and attempts to understand the long psychological aftermath of sexual violence. After reporting a serious sexual assault many years after it occurred, Anna found herself confronting not only the reality faced by many survivors whose cases never reach court, but also the ways trauma, memory, masking, and neurodivergent communication can shape how credibility is perceived within society and the criminal justice system. Her work challenges the myth of the “perfect victim” and gives voice to survivors whose stories never become courtroom narratives, headlines, or public campaigns. Writing from lived experience, she explores the intersection of trauma, autism, PTSD, therapy, shame, and systemic failure, including her experience navigating the justice process in Northern Ireland after reporting a non-recent rape. Not the Perfect Victim, first published independently in 2025, is now distributed internationally and was rapidly taken up by public library systems across the island of Ireland.
