Seit Anbeginn der Zeit werden an einem trostlosen Strand in Schottland die verschiedensten Dinge angespült. Im Inneren eines kleinen Eisbergs findet sich die Scherbe eines Gefäßes der Wikinger, die in Teilen von einer mysteriösen Insel zu berichten weiß, verborgen hinter Eis und Nebel, welche große Schätze und noch größere Schrecken bergen soll. Aus dem gleichen Eisblock taut auch ein verrottetes Stück Haut auf, welches sich nicht identifizieren lässt, dessen Hautmuster aber an eine Kreatur erinnert, die seit einhundert Millionen Jahren als ausgestorben gilt.
