In this (took too long to release) episode, we discuss C.S. Lewis's essay entitled "Miracles" from the collection God in the Dock (link below). Lewis has an eloquent way of discussing how preconceptions tend to be the determining factor in what we believe.
There are also clear rebuttals to the cessationist view of ongoing spiritual gifts.

Welcome to season 2 of Jesus, Whiskey, and Question Marks! Have you ever wondered about some of the Spiritual gifts in Scripture and whether they still exist? Apparently, there are those that think that some of the most prolific gifts in Scripture are no longer happening. I didn't know this until recently. In this episode, part one of a two part look into cessationism, we will look at what gifts are argued to have ended, and if there is any evidence to the claim.

In part two, we will look at what C.S. Lewis has to say about Miracles in an essay entitled Miracles, but that's still to come. Along with that, there will be a special surprise.

  • Ephesians 6 and Our True Enemy

I feel like we are all SICK of elections right now. Why are we so weary? I think we know there is a divide in the nation, and I think most of us - at least - think we know why. Part of the problem is that we - as believers - are looking at people with differing viewpoints as the enemy. We have been bamboozled by the true enemy into believing that our fellow humans are who we are against. As believers, we have true enemies, but they are not our fellow humans. In this episode, we will discuss refocusing our energy on the enemy that Paul calls to our attention in Ephesians 6:12. The episode this week is a bit of a deeper dive into Ephesian culture, and it drives home the importance of context. I have a lot of resources referenced in this episode, and as always, you can find them below. Thanks again for listening, and stay sane (free from mental derangement; having a sound, healthy mind: having or showing reason, sound judgement, or good sense) out there!

P.S. Sorry for all the noise on this one. Dogs were a bit raucous while recording.

  • Re-Hitching the Old Testament

In this episode I'm joined by the brilliant and beautiful Natasha Cowden. We discuss the importance of the Old Testament to the Christian faith. We discuss how if we don't run from the hard and weird, but do a little study, we find that there is great significance. We also talk about how the Bible isn't a tale of two stories or two gods, but rather one story about Jesus, and Yahweh is the same throughout.

I planned to provide links to a sermon series by Andy Stanley from 2018 when he famously made a statement about Christians needing to unhitch our faith from the Old Testament. Unfortunately, I was unable to locate the sermon series on North Point Community Church's website. I don't want to misrepresent his statements by linking out of context clips, so I will leave you with the link to their sermons and let the listener do with it what they will.

That which is good, right, and true that comes out of our mouths if from the Spirit, everything else is from our sinful hearts.

As a continuation of the last episode comparing Jesus' words about His return at the end of the age with a Galilean wedding, we talk about Jesus' comments on the signs of the end of the age from Matthew chapter 24.

Tony LaMouria joins me again and we discuss the theme that we are just to always be ready and preparing for the return of Jesus at the end of the age.

There are two concepts that so many Christians get wrong - and that I love to pick on. The Beginning and the End. In this episode, we discuss the End and whether or not we can predict anything about the timing of the return of Jesus. In what might be a shocking twist to many, one of the most telling events in history - A Galilean Wedding - will give us more information than we could ever imagine. This one is part one of two again, so absorb this and "wait for iiiiiiittttt" as part two is coming soon.

In this episode, my good friend Tony LaMouria joins me. We discuss some of our church hurt stories, and get into a bit of the "why" on both sides of the equation. Our hope is to have more conversations like this, and if you have a "question mark" that you want me to address, let me know. I would love to look into and discuss some of the challenges you might have faced. As always, find some references from this episode below. Please "like," "Share," and "Subscribe" to make the bots happy and get Jesus, Whiskey, and Question Marks out there.

Often, we are hurt by the very church that is supposed to be the earthly representation of the body of Christ. What do we do with that? Why does it happen? In this first part of our first multipart episode, we will discuss how a misinterpretation of Scripture can cause great harm. Stick with us for this series as we look into how to change a culture that has driven far to many away from Jesus.
