Summary

In the summer of 1987, Luna spent two weeks as a counselor at Camp Gilead, a sleepy overnight camp tucked into the pine woods of northern Minnesota. But by the third night, the campers started talking about a bird they saw at dusk, a bird too large and too quiet, with eyes like cracked mirrors. Luna dismissed it as tall tales until she saw it herself, perched on the roof of the dining hall, watching her. And then she learned that Camp Gilead had been built on something older than the treaties, something that woke up when the lake ice broke.
