What The Nuck? B6 Toxicity Was Not the Only Missed Diagnosis: The Hernia Plot Twist I Didn't Expect

After finally being diagnosed with B6 toxicity, I thought I'd found the answer to years of unexplained symptoms. Many of my neurological symptoms began to improve, but something still didn't add up.

In an unexpected twist, entering a weight loss drug trial to improve my health led to severe constipation and uncovered what I now call a hernia thunderstorm—a congenital Canal of Nuck, bilateral occult inguinal hernias, an occult femoral hernia, and a small umbilical hernia. Most recent evaluation showed, bilateral occult indirect inguinal hernias, bilateral occult femoral hernias, and the congenital Canal of Nuck was not seen last visit to the specialist.

In this episode, I share how recovering from one condition revealed another, why hidden (occult) hernias can be so challenging to identify, and how living with more than one diagnosis changed my understanding of my own health.

This is not about blaming individuals. It's about recognising that diagnostic blind spots exist, particularly when conditions don't present in the usual way. My hope is that by sharing my journey, others with persistent symptoms will feel empowered to continue asking questions and working with their healthcare team.

Sometimes one diagnosis isn't the whole story.

Sometimes the biggest plot twists are the ones you never see coming.

  • Ep. 5-Lacy's Story: When supplements cause nerve damage
    Jun 9 2026

In Episode 5 of B6 Toxicity and Me – Diagnosis Stories, Melissa Page speaks with Lacy, a nurse and health coach, about her journey through vitamin B6 toxicity.

What began as routine supplement use during pregnancy and recovery from surgery gradually developed into severe neurological symptoms, gut dysfunction, vision problems, and debilitating nerve pain that left her unable to work for more than a year.

Lacy shares how she eventually connected her symptoms to excessive vitamin B6 exposure, why standard testing can sometimes miss toxicity, and the challenges of obtaining a diagnosis once supplements have been stopped and blood levels have returned to normal.

    Together, Melissa and Lacy discuss:

    • The hidden risks of vitamin and supplement stacking
    • Why normal blood tests do not always tell the whole story
    • The impact of B6 toxicity on the nervous system and gut
    • Recovery strategies and nutrient reintroduction
    • The importance of self-advocacy and informed healthcare decisions

Lacy's experience is a reminder that more is not always better when it comes to supplements. While every recovery journey is different, her story offers hope, practical insights, and an important message for anyone living with unexplained neurological symptoms.

If you've ever wondered whether a supplement could be contributing to your health problems, this is an episode you won't want to miss.
