I recall the ongoing investigations into the Yorkshire Ripper when I was a young man and of taking a passing interest.
Now as an older man I find the story quite fascinating and disturbing.
The most disturbing thing of all … the insistence of the “authorities” that the full details of the case and investigations will not be released until long after I am gone.

I was in my late teens living in Essex at the height of the reign of this monster. I remember vividly the fear in the country at the time and had friends at Leeds Uni. I’ve seen numerous documentaries on him but this book has given an amazingly in-depth look at all the events and many other possible crimes he may well have committed. What a absolutely vile man he truly is.
Well researched and written. Excellent narration. Well worth listening to even though it’s horrific.

This book is a shocking (and I mean shocking) catalogue of Sutcliffe's crimes, and the negligence of some of the investigators.

Thorough account of the events and terrible crimes, giving a vivid picture of what a monster Sutcliffe was. Highlights the fiasco that was the investigation - unbelievable in parts- Keystone Cops come to mind. Ridiculous that even now, the full results of the inquiries cannot be revealed until 2081! Shameful on behalf of the establishment.

I don’t think I’ve heard or read a true crime book that had as much sheer police incompetence during the murder investigation! It’s absolutely infuriating to listen to! These books are often grim enough when police are competent but Jesus Christ it’s so much worse when police can’t even be trusted to see and know a ripper crime when they see it!

Police are guilty quite often of getting tunnel vision, that is a common enough thread in serial murder investigation, but this case really takes the cake! For police to just assume there was all of these other people out there battering women with hammers is shocking and insane
