Summary

Four years ago, the Erethran honor guard arrived and threw John Lee into a portal to another world. Since then, Earth has received no word of the intrepid adventurer. Until now.

Finding his way back to Earth through a portal, John returns to a very changed world. The shackles of galactic control have bound Earth and humanity ever tighter to the system.

We continue to see Tao's development as an author with better storylines and storytelling. Character development is great both Stat wise and personally. Great book! Can't wait for the next one!

the book seems a little rushed from start to finish, but the characters are rushed too, so that might be okay...
still, it meant that the character interactions which was one of the greatest strengths of the first books are fewer and a little more surface level...
this book ends arc 2 and it seems like book 7 will have the possibility of moving back to the more personal level even if taking place on a larger playing field...

Nick is great every time I hear his voice, this is no different...

In short in the top 3 of all LITRPG series I have listened to (which is most of it) and is getting better with each book

Tao Wong is a LITRPG genius taking what I would normally consider an enjoyable gimmick genre and turning it into deep, engaging world I can't get enough of. The gaming system is deep and interesting but more importantly its impact of the world is well thought out diving into things as such has how the different class type affects galactic culture and many more. An amazing balance of action, world building and character development not really seen elsewhere in LITRPG books.

At first they main Character comes across as a bit of an angry hothead which is annoying however as the series go and he gains depth and you put yourself in his shoes having seen 90% the world die he becomes more likable.

I have listened to all 9 books so far and enjoyed each one. Nick Podehl is one of the top narrators on Audible and it shows. Tao Wong does a great job of building John as a character. Like most book/move/tv series there are good and bad parts but overall the series has been enjoyable and I would recommend it. A good addition to the LitRPG options out there.
