About this listen

Meet Seth Brakes. Musician. Reluctant romantic. Inherent troublemaker. Addict.

And three hundred and twenty days sober.

After a near-death experience, Seth is carving a new path for himself. Having reformed the band — the infamous Lucky Fuckers — things are looking up for Seth: gigs are falling back into the diary, he's in love and finally getting back to what he enjoys most: writing music.

That is until his past starts to creep up on him . . .

A dark comedy that is painfully honest, original and dynamically told, When I Died For the First Time is a raw account of a man tested his uppermost limits, hitting legendary highs and crashing to catastrophic lows. It's a tale of second chances, love lost and gained, and coming back to yourself: a story that stays with you long after you've stopped listening.

A nice story that blends strong themes like childhood violence or addictions with funny moments and images unveiling Booth experience of the music industry and rock music. Above all a book about love in all its possible meanings. Amazing performance in the audiobook, including great pieces of music.

A wonderful book and a great performance

The story led me down the garden path. Past shaggers in the bushes and addicts in the shadows. Egos come and go, but the urge to create is strong with Booth. He’s a Star.

What is real.

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. The story starts relatively slowly but it soon speeds up. Seth Brakes is such a great character who you’ll love and hate at different points in the book. Tim Booth does such a good job of bringing Seth to life as we follow his complicated life. The book brought out lots of emotions in me, I cried at one point.

This book needs to be made into the film, the right filmmaker could make Seth Brakes a household name.

One thing is for sure, a 2nd book should be written. I’d certainly be keen to know where the life of Seth Brakes could go in the future.

Everyone needs to meet Seth Brakes

This is what an audio book should be, story that grips you and brought to life by the narrators. Well done mr booth, when is the next one? Loved it

I bought the hardback at one of the James shows in Manchester last year. Waited to read it until I could hear Tim’s narration - so glad I did. Wonderful voice and performance. Thank you Tim!
