P. G. Wodehouse meets space opera, as Ensign Thomas Innes Loche Kinago, fresh from the Academy is given his first command.

A crumb from the upper crust, he's eager to uphold the traditions of his family, and in particular, his mother, a distinguished Admiral of the Imperium. Of course, he's aware of the importance of always having simply smashing tailored uniforms on hand, and having his camera ready to record memorable moments for his scrapbook.

In the meantime, a charismatic leader has arisen who seems able to control the minds of anyone he meets, and may be on his way to taking over the entire galaxy. Can Kinago's aristocratic bearing and unbridled snobbery stand up to such a challenge? Fortunately, his constant companion, the unflappable Jeeves, er, Parsons, is on hand to look after the young, impulsive master, and somehow help his charge bumble his way through, perhaps even saving the galaxy in the process.

A well written story following a cousin of the Emperor, and whose mother is head of the navy. A passionate character who throws himself into his interests and is serving as a junior officer on a starship.
Quite capable of making mistakes and causing himself problems the character is nevertheless a likeable person and well presented.

I enjoyed the book, have since purchased the next two in the series that I have listened to.
Ramon De Ocampo is a great narrator that works well with this noble character, could listen to him read for hours at a time.

The book may not suit everyone but I would recommend it be tried. The story is certainly a different take on a noble serving in the space navy. Think a much better version of Flashman with far less bad habits and able to get things done despite himself.
Supported by his aide de camp, Parsons, who is effectively using him to achieve the aims of the empire and protecting his charge.

Listen to the book. Its worth it. Now listening to it again for the 2nd time.

Great book

not my usual fare, I will admit, but this has been a revelation. really well written, main character is such a good guy and the way he is so very courteous and yet strangely humble had me smiling. maybe it's because I'm a Brit and it spoke to my inherent politeness and sense of duty, but whatever the reason, this was a damned good listen

so much damn fun!

Not SiFi, or novel. No hint of a plot. No character depth. Virtually no location. Mostly repetitive cyclic idle chatter and private thoughts. Obviously written experimentally or for a bet ? Apologies for negative review.

Recommend avoid. No Plot...!
