Critic reviews

I adored this. A beautifully written novel about the secrets within a marriage and the past coming back to haunt you.
A clever, provocative and twisting story of loyalty and lies, marriage and mystery. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
A tensely written, thoughtful thriller that will stay with you long after you’ve put it down.
A riveting and poignant read. Matthews has masterfully rendered a tale of love, death and betrayal.
A spellbinding tale of deception and betrayal that asks the ultimate question: how well do we really know the ones we love? Fantastically twisty storytelling.
An exceptional read. Nail biting, and utterly addictive, fans of Lisa Jewell will love this.
A masterful feat of storytelling, with a kaleidoscopic plot that shifts your perspective with every turn of the page. No word of a lie – this is one of the best crime novels I’ve ever read.

To Love a Liar is the perfect title for this twisty-turny, thrilling and evocative story.

Demonstrating how the secret police can interfere with, infiltrate, and in turn, ruin relationships, lives and reputations for ulterior motives and self-preservation is well-presented in this twisty-turny story based around the inquest of Chris, an undercover officer.

I enjoyed listening to the narration, so brilliantly read. The multitude of characters were wonderfully voiced which made the listening experience easy, pleasing and enjoyable.

The plot depicted, through vibrant characters had this reader guessing, and predicting, and rethinking my conclusions more than once. It was beautifully played.

The characterisation was also well-thought out and skilfully written. Chris’ inner turmoil, anxiety and insecurities of mind were intriguing and engaging and alluring.

The writing itself was paced, played, and polished. Need I say more?

I enjoyed listening to this story because I enjoyed the narration so much. I also enjoyed the storytelling, so I will be reading more from Matthew’s. It was a good introduction to her writing.

I do recommend a listen.

Interesting premise in an exciting story.
