Penniless and newly orphaned Briar Monroe finds shelter at Thornby Manor, a brooding estate above a mist-shrouded lake. But whispers of a dead wife, an estranged son and locked-away secrets haunt its corridors…

Warwickshire, 1891. Recently orphaned and left destitute, Briar Monroe accepts the protection of Lord Danville and the shadowed sanctuary of Thornby Manor. The great house looms above a mist-shrouded lake, its corridors heavy with secrets – not least the mysterious death of Lady Elizabeth Danville, and the unspoken tensions between her formidable widower and his magnetic son, Gabriel.

As Briar navigates the undercurrents of a household ruled by watchful servants and locked doors, she is drawn ever deeper into a web of suspicion, desire and fear. Whispers in the night, figures at windows, and a constant sense of being watched leave her questioning not only the truth about Thornby, but her own safety within its walls.

Atmospheric, intoxicating and laced with peril, Thornby Manor is a gothic tale of betrayal, obsession and a house that never forgets.

A simmering, haunting debut for listeners who loved Jane Eyre, Rebecca, The Woman in White and The Silent Companion.

I really enjoyed listening to this and will listen to others that get produced but the end was a little too predictable.

Great listen and read well

A good story but difficult to get into but someone else might find it good.

Unusual plot based around attitudes to mental health in the 19th Century. The plot almost beyond belief at times and the characters, slightly 'full on' (are they believable) but the story line took the listener forward to conclusion. At times, quite a tough read but nevertheless, an imaginative and intelligent plot. Well worth keeping with it.

Narration excellent; held attention to the end.

Held my interest with good levels of suspense and enjoyable twists. I thought it might get Darker than it did, but still an engrossing Gothic romp of a read (well... 'Listen', rather than 'read', but you take my meaning!).

Best Free Listen I've encountered!

Very very long, for what must be considered a pointless destination- not sure what it was really - sort of Bronte + AI ?.

Gothic to the point of absurdity !
