About this listen

Once, I helped save a kingdom.

Now, I’m trapped in a prison of thorns and nightmares.

My crime? Knowing the location of a power that could reshape the world—a grimoire I swore to protect with my life.

That secret is the only thing keeping me alive while my captors wait for me to break.

Until he arrives.

Beautiful. Ruthless. Dark, inscrutable eyes. A dangerously wicked grin.

But he’s not here to rescue me. He wants the grimoire for himself–and he’ll destroy anyone who stands in his way. My only choice is a fragile, temporary alliance with a man I can never trust.

Because there’s more at stake than just a stolen grimoire or an ancient grudge.

And behind his mask of effortless allure, he’s hiding something far more dangerous than a thirst for power.

Something that could destroy us all.

... to wait until the second book in a series is out at least, so when I get engrossed in a story I can just carry straight on (I probably won't ever learn to be patient on that front 🤷‍♀️😆 but there isn't long to wait for the next book in this series and it's already added to my kindle wish list in case the audiobook isn't out at the same time) I listened to this straight after the Kingdom of lies series, really liked Madinia's character and couldn't wait to see more of Madinia and Calysian's story in this book, I thoroughly enjoyed that series but I think I'm going to end up liking this one more, I don't want to drop any spoilers but I think for me I just enjoy Madinia and Calysian's characters a little more than Prisca and Lorian, and I'm loving their story and overall story line so far, this is probably more a 4.2 ⭐'s for me and can't wait for the next one

oh when will I learn ...

Great book! I loved it!
I loved the Kingdom of Lies and this was a great follow-up.
I wanted to know more about Madinia and Calysian's story and it was very good.

This felt like stepping into a dark fantasy realm where The Witcher and Game of Thrones made unholy love. And I was so here for it.

The narration was strong, the characters were incredibly well voiced, and the storytelling kept me hooked from start to finish. The plot is rich, full of power plays, dark magic, and slow-burning chemistry that crackles off the page.

The tension? Wild. The heat? Subtle but effective. And that ending? Bloody hell! I need answers.

A must-listen for fans of gritty, action-packed fantasy with a sensual edge.

Fantasy, fire, and a brutal cliffhanger

I didn't find the male narrator very compelling to listen to, unfortunately.😔 Also, I didn't understand the decision to have them both narrating the same chapters but NOT in dual narration?🤔 It seemed an absolutely pointless thing to do.🤷🏻‍♀️ I really enjoyed the female narrator. This is one occasion I'd have preferred she narrated the whole audiobook alone.👏⭐️

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I do have a bit of a gripe - it states it can be read without reading the previous series, which I haven't. However, I was left rather clueless about the grimoires, who the dark god is, how they know him, and why it falls to her to protect everyone from him?🤷🏻‍♀️ I'd have loved those questions answered along the way, and they aren't! I still really enjoyed it, but I think had I known this going in, I would have read the prior series first!

I found the writing compelling. I liked the banter, the justified female rage, the spice was the perfect amount for me, and the many feelings of revenge were fully justied too!🤩

I might go back and read the previous series for more context. 🙌
