"The heart and soul of rugby lives here."—The Times

For more than a decade, the Old Northamptonians 3rd XV fought, laughed, stumbled, and triumphed their way through the beating heart of Northampton rugby. What began as a scratch side on the brink of collapse became a team that defined a club — and a community.

In this warm, honest, and often hilarious memoir, Stuart MacDonald charts the unlikely rise of the self-proclaimed best 3rd XV in the UK. From chaotic away days and lastminute callups to league titles, unforgettable characters, and the quiet heroism of simply turning up, this is grassroots rugby in all its messy, brilliant glory.

Set against the backdrop of Billing Road and shaped by the legacy of those who came before, There Will Always Be Saturday captures what rugby truly means: resilience, belonging, and the unbreakable bond of a Saturday.

A story of leadership, loyalty, and the team that refused to disappear — and the people who made it unforgettable.

As an ONs mum of two and married to an ex rugby player (amateur player 😂 that made him sound much better than he was) this book brings home such memories of our own journey and family. We’ve spent the past 16 years on the side lines clapping, encouraging and freezing week in week out and love our time amongst the whole ONs rugby family. I’ve even had the pleasure of playing alongside Stu when we first started out playing touch and playing along side my daughter for the ONs ladies team when they were short of players. And my husband John played in last years Boxing Day match on the same team as our son, something he never thought would happen and something he will never forget.
So a big thank you to Stu for capturing the whole ethos of the rugby family, it’s so much more than a game!
