I have been longing for a book which drew me in and in which I could loose myself. This story has it all, it is a psychological thriller, a love story and a who done it all in one! You will not be disappointed.

This story kept me interested the whole way through, as the reader tries to solve the puzzles and guess the answers more questions arise but they are all answered in time. It is beautifully and sensitively read with such a soothing voice.

I'm new to Diane Setterfield, but am already a fan after this, my second book of hers. Her stories are so original and so well paced and plotted and she's a real book lover's writer.

The main sub-plot involving the main character Maragaret and her family history really didn't work for me - I found it rather contrived. But, the main thrust of the plot is about Vida Winter and that is really entertaining - not so realistic when taken as a whole, but that felt okay to me because the whole story is really pretty fairy tale 'ish - in a good way.

If you want something original to lose yourself in and enjoy lots of detail centric storytelling, you will enjoy this!

Jenny Agutter's narration is excellent.
