With millions of copies sold, The Stranger is one of the most widely read novels in the world. It stands as perhaps the greatest existentialist tale ever conceived.

When a young Algerian named Meursault kills a man, his subsequent imprisonment and trial are puzzling and absurd.

This remarkable translation by Matthew Ward has been considered the definitive English version since its original publication.

I think I’m not clever enough to understand what’s so good about this book so I’ll just leave it as a three out of five

It’s ok

Really Interesting book, great ideas and Enjoyed the summary of Camus’s philosophy at the end

Don’t be a stranger to this book

This is my third listen to this recording. The story is something for itself, the protagonist is very well written, but also challenging because his way of thinking and living is detached from society.
But because of all the intentional gaps in the story, the book makes you think and wonder. Why is it so? Is the protagonist justified or not? How did he become like this? What does it tell of morality? Of justice.
The language and prose is sublime.

A classic - but not for everyone

Couldn’t put it down (so to speak). Definitely one of my new fave books ever. A must read by everyone

Incredible

This book famously has no ending, and it should make you think about life, morality, guilt, values, society and it's legal system, and the death penalty.
Also famously, we have to assign the title, 'the stranger' to someone. Maybe the protagonist, maybe the person he becomes when he does the bad deed, maybe the other person he tries to help, nobody knows.
I just think it is a bit pretentious and definitely a little bit past it's time.
I say that the stranger is the author, not because I don't know him, but because he tries too hard to write a story that is inconspicuous and detached.

it's supposed to make you think but meh...
