A heart-warming story about starting all over again, for fans of Bridget Jones’ Diary, written by debut author Jasmine Dennison and narrated by Jessica Barden.

Sometimes you have to escape to be found.

Kate wasn’t expecting a proposal, but when Rob pushed the small velvet box across the table how could she not get her hopes up? Those hopes dashed by a pair of pearl earrings, Kate decides it’s time to hit reset on her life. This time next year, she’ll have the life, job, relationship of her dreams. But then Rob drops a bombshell: he wants to move to America, for work, and without Kate. Shattered and heart-broken, her mum’s “there’s still time, if you get a move on”, her best friend Sonia’s engagement news, and – best of all – her seven-year-old niece Ottilie’s thoughtful suggestion that “Auntie K could borrow Daddy to be the daddy for her baby” do not make her feel better…

Leaving the pieces of her old life behind, Kate retreats to her sister’s ramshackle farm, where handsome handyman Dan is a welcome distraction. But it soon becomes apparent that underneath the idyllic surface, not all is as it appears at the farm – and whilst Kate didn’t go there looking for a new beginning, she might not be the only one to find one…

I loved this. Had me laughing out loud. If you like Bridget Jones's Diary, you'll appreciate the humour in this. Brilliantly narrated too.

Very humorous

Story line was predictable but that’s what I love about these kind of books, easy listening after a long day. Narrators voice was a little whiny but battled on and the dulcet tones became quite therapeutic!

Easy listen

Unfortunately the narrator was awful! She spoke in a monotone American/Irish/Liverpudlian accent that very nearly made this a DNF !

Nice story, easy plot - need a part 2 !

Very up to date with plenty of eco type references. Also a good book to inspire youngsters to follow their dreams

Good realism

This isn’t my normal listen but I wanted to try something new. Appreciating this was the author’s debut work, it’s certainly original. It takes a lot for me to laugh out loud but I was definitely smiling away in numerous parts of the book. I enjoyed the storytelling and some of the underlying themes- not everyone’s life is perfect, despite what they want you to think. The concepts of life’s pressure and expectations were beautifully brought to light whether via family, friends or indeed ourselves. It was also nice that the ‘rom’ part of the romcom was relatively light touch. This gave the book a nice balance so you could empathise with the main character’s life struggles. In the end I was surprised how much I liked it and hope the author is going to ‘go again’.

Entertaining and reassuring
