Ninety-one year old Ira Levinson is in trouble. Struggling to stay conscious after a car crash, with his mind fading, an image of his beloved, and long-dead, wife Ruth appears. Urging him to hang on, she lovingly recounts the joys and sorrows of their life together - how they met, the dark days of WWII, and its unrelenting effect on their families.

A few miles away, college student Sophia Danko's life is about to change. Recovering from a break-up, she meets the young, rugged Luke and is thrown into a world far removed from her privileged school life. Sophia sees a new and tantalising future for herself, but Luke has a secret which threatens it all.

Ira and Ruth. Sophia and Luke. Two couples, separated by years and experience, whose lives are about to converge in the most unexpected - and shocking - of ways.

What made the experience of listening to The Longest Ride the most enjoyable?

Story, narrating, atmosphere, passion, love... All of it mixed together made this audiobook special. Great idea to give it to two narrators...although four would be even better.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Longest Ride?

The book is memorable all through. It is difficult not to pass any spoilers.

Which character – as performed by January LaVoy and Ron McLarty – was your favourite?

I just loved the old man.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Quite a few.

Any additional comments?

Recommended for anybody, who likes nicely flowing, non-violent memoir-like stories and who does not mind a bit of romance intertwined. Although the final twist was a bit predictable, it is actually what the reader/listener wishes for an end. I am happy I convinced myself to purchase this audiobook.

Sooo lovely book!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend it. It was a well written, well narrated story with a few twists and turns.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Longest Ride?

The very obvious love that was shared between the two couples - one starting their 'ride' together and one ending.

What about January LaVoy and Ron McLarty ’s performance did you like?

I have never really gone for a book with more than one narrator but this one worked really well. I found it very easy to keep up with who was who through the jumps between characters.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me smile, laugh out loud and whilst not actually cry made me very sad on occasion. A very well written book which certainly makes you emotional.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend Nicholas Sparks as an author, he truly captures characters and emotions and writes a good plot!

As the two stories developed the characters grew on me. I needed to know what was going to happen to them next.
It made it hard to stop listening whenpmy world got in the way.
The story and the performances were so good I could empathise with each character in turn. Wonderful.

Another "page turner" from Mr Spark
