About this listen

When the spicy “exes with benefits” summer fling escalates to a “fake dating for the holidays” rom-com full of kick-your-feet feelings!

A booty call with your ex? Bad decision, Rory.

I really thought it would be a one-time thing. A hormonal moment of weakness where I text him a funny ha-ha realization that I’m ovulating and he knows what that means–I can’t turn my brain off. He used to be so good at helping with that....

Then Garrett shows up very quickly. Bickering leads to banging, and it’s better than ever, raw and real and super satisfying. So maybe we didn't work out as a couple, but “exes with benefits” has a nice ring to it, at least until I finish my residency. Just once a month.

A Christmas road trip? Disaster ahead, Garrett.

I know I messed up when I broke Rory’s heart eight months ago.

I also know we can’t spend more than ninety minutes together without everything crumbling, and the drive back to Pine Harbour is six times that long. Too bad leaving Rory behind—or for good—just isn’t an option. Whether she likes it or not, I’m her guy. Her ride home.

And when we arrive at her parents’ Christmas tree farm and discover her sister in tears over a breakup of her own, Rory takes one pleading look at me and suddenly I’m her “boyfriend” again. And there’s only one bed....

Fake dating your ex to save Christmas…what could go wrong?

A brand new Christmas rom com that weaves cozy whimsy and sizzling heat throughout a very festive happily ever after from New York Times bestselling author Zoe York!

Brilliant narration from Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross who bring the humour, drama and romance to your ears.

Garrett and Rory have know each other since high school. Garrett has support Rory as she did her grow in her medical career. But he has felt second best to her career and has held back on furthering their relationship into engaged because of it. Finishing the relationship is the only way Garrett can see forward. Well that is until he keep gets booty calls. But slowly booty calls fade away, until both are home for Christmas and neither families know of the break up. Between the fake relationship and the feelings that never left either of them, this is a great second chance and full on emotionally romance. Perfect in every way.

I devoured this in one sitting! Narrated beautifully I really felt the emotions and the words on the page as I followed along on the kindle!
I listened while I wrapped presents and had to stop and take a minute during the Spice! The spice really was spicing! but this book also had a good plot to to match!

I loved this audiobook! Having read the book itself already before listening to this, I immensely felt that the characters voices embodied exactly what I had heard in my head reading the words. The storyline is so brilliant with an amazing plot that had me hooked from the start; the premise even! I will definitely be listening again. The only reason it is a 4 star not 5 star read is purely because I am not a person to usually read spice but I 100% reccomend this audiobook to anyone in the mood for a spicy Christmas romance. 4⭐️s

The pros...

It was an audiobook version to review, so I could go about my day as I was listening to it.

The spice was spicing 👌

& Garrett... I LOVED him, but he definitely deserved better than the FMC...

Which brings us to the cons.... the FMC!

It took me longer than it should've to finish the book, because I would've DNF'd if I hadn't promised that I would review.

The FMC is irritating, irrational & just downright unlikeable!

At no point in the book does she accept responsibility even though most (if not all) of their problems stem from her & her attitude!

She basically uses Garrett simply because (& only WHEN) she's horny & she still somehow manages to blame HIM for it.

As an aside, I'm petty sure that the purpose of taking the pill IS to stop ovulation, so that subplot didn't really make ANY sense.

The FMC is irrational to the point that she stands outside in the freezing cold looking at her car that won't start... Lord only knows why... so, Garrett comes along & both offers to take her to a garage so she can buy a battery &/or give her a ride to their hometown...

She then (irrationally as she has NO mechanic skills or knowledge whatsoever) tells him that she doesn't need any help, which clearly she DOES. & then bitchily DEMANDS that he give her a ride to a garage & then leave, so she can buy a battery & get a taxi back to install the battery...

Again, she has ZERO mechanical knowledge & when he rightfully points that out, she starts berating HIM 😡🤬😡🤬

Honestly... I STRUGGLED with this FMC!

He then insists on giving her a ride to her hometown (Honestly, I would've left her freezing her ass off staring at her broken down car 🤷‍♀️), which is an 8 hour trip.

She then decides that she needs to add ungrateful sod to her already bitchy demeanour... so, she refuses even though she has NO car & no other form of transportation available to her... I genuinely was praying for Garrett to just leave!

Then she makes fun of him for him not telling his distant family that they'd broken up, when she herself hasn't told her immediate family either & she's afraid to do so...

So WHAT exactly was she going to do when she went home alone 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

So, Garrett sweetheart that he is, offers to pretend that they're together & for them to have a pretend argument in front of her family so that they can "break up" & she won't need to explain why she hadn't told them that they'd broken up nearly a year prior.

Madame ungrateful, naturally berates Garrett for his offer only to opportunitist that she is, to use him to hoodwink her family for the flimsiest excuse imaginable...

Hijinks ensue where they're thrown together & even though they both KNOW they need to talk, they always evade the talk in favour of having sex.

Their issues stem from her burying her head in the sand & treating Garrett as an afterthought in their relationship & basically taking him for granted.

So, in all the months they've been split up, she never once stopped to think about WHY he broke up with her... she simply blamed him FOR the break-up.

Because, naturally he should've remained at her beck & call for another 15 years without complaint 🙄

They finally have the big talk & GARRETT ends up apologising, but Madam irritating does not & they get a HEA, meaning Garrett gets the short end of the stick 🤷‍♀️

Fantastic MMC... Irritating FMC

I loved this audiobook, a great, fun and entertaining story. The narrators do a fantastic job bringing the characters to life, I love these narrators together and have listened to them narrate a few other books and they have brilliant chemistry together!

Garrett and Rory broke up months earlier (without telling their families) and end up travelling to their hometown for Christmas, after finding Rory’s sister there in tears after her own breakup they end up pretending to still be dating and realise they still love each other after spending time together.

A great second chance romance with all the cosy Christmassy, small town vibes, and all the drama, fun, spice, humour, romance. This is the first story I’ve listened (or read) by Zoe York but it won’t be the last!.
