About this listen

On the eve of the global lockdown, Don Barlow opens the door of his old beachside cottage to find a pretty girl with pink-tipped hair, claiming to have nowhere to go.

He allows her entry, and so begins a mystery set in unprecedented times: with the virus raging outside their home, the girl cannot be asked to leave, but what does he risk by having her stay?

A very good Aussie story. Just as the reader thinks they know what’s going on, there is a small change which changes the whole direction of story until the something else is revealed, changing the direction again. The reader doesn’t really get the full picture until the end. Quite believable too.

Really enjoyed this story of unfortunate effects that last a lifetime, causing pain and sadness, but also some joy. Well written and well read.

Good story

I just loved listening to this especially as it is set in Australia around the beginning of pandemic days.

The arrival of the ‘cuckoo’ could have been good news or bad news. You do wonder. Is she for real? Hints are offered as we are party to her messages with Bailey. Suspicion is ramped up. Whose side to take?

A very exciting finale with an ending blessed by poetic justice…

Refreshingly contemporary, lockdown time story

It was well read but not much of a story one. It seemed very short with no real middle.

Just Ok
