Free from the Empire, Eryk flees with Maveith, following a thread of hope that Maveith's sister is alive. The journey is perilous, and success is not assured. To conceal their true objective, the pair become mercenary adventurers as they cross the continent.

I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks from all genres and this series is hands down number one. Characters are great, stories is thrilling but not over the top. Interesting lore and worldbuilding. 5 stars all round

Best series ever

My rating is accurate; The performance and story is good (the 3’s reflect the quality and the overall 4 reflects how much I want to listen to the coming Book nr 6 in the series).

Although this book is riddled with mistakes I find that I can easily gloss over them because of how interesting and fun the adventure is. The author does a brilliant job with his style of storytelling-. The narrator, although a long way from perfect, handles male and female characters with good direction. You’ll notice a bit of stumbling because of the speech patterns/format of the characters; for me this mattered very little (which is very rare-).

The story unfolds with magics and clashing of fists, blades and arrows. The turmoil of experiencing death lingers- but in a world where survival is what they were trained and honed for, it doesn’t seem to keep many of them back. The ragtag bunch of risktakers find themselves delving deeper and deeper into unknown territory- and helplessness seems to try to take hold.

The story progresses smoothly and I find the prospected ending of book nr 10 to be arriving too soon.

I recommend the book to those who want an other world adventure without the exp. lvl. up and stat gain spam that so many “isekai” stories entertain. But if you’re looking at this review after reading or listening to book nr. 4; You needn’t hesitate, it gets better.

It’s a good book

great next chapter to this great adventure. The good difference between nations and peoples is great and lots of discovery of ancient history and magic 😊

loving the series 😊

Not much to say other than I love these sort of Isekai LitRPG stories, but one trend I notice in many of them is that the main character always has some goal in mind that never really comes to fruition, or they keep dangling story beats and reveals in front of you. I am pleased to say that A Soldier's Life bucks that trend, the characters have goals, and they actually achieve them (or come close), secrets aren't kept forever, the plot advances and the world seems active.

Fun characters and situations, good pacing, good narration.

5/5.

Consistently sets up goals and delivers on them.

It’s kinda amazing how much Eric manages to get done, becoming involved with orc politics at the very top. I kinda liked back when he was just one in the crowd but it’s also nice to see him take more of a leadership. I personally call his party the ‘hero’s party’ in my head btw. Great book and love the lore drop of end game stuff.
