About this listen

*This audiobooks includes an audio-exclusive conversation between Peter May and Peter Forbes*

THE RETURN OF FIN MACLEOD, PETER MAY'S MUCH-LOVED HERO OF THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING LEWIS TRILOGY.

A MURDER

The body of eighteen-year-old TV personality Caitlin is found abandoned on a remote beach at the head of An Loch Dubh - the Black Loch - on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. A swimmer and canoeist, it is inconceivable that she could have drowned.

A SECRET

Fin Macleod left the island ten years earlier to escape its memories. When he learns that his married son Fionnlagh had been having a clandestine affair with the dead girl and is suspected of her murder, he and Marsaili return to try and clear his name.

A RECKONING

But nothing is as it seems, and the truth of the murder lies in a past that Fin would rather forget, and a tragedy at the cages of a salmon farm on East Loch Roag, where the tense climax of the story finds its resolution.

The Black Loch takes us on a journey through family ties, hidden relationships and unforgiving landscapes, where suspense, violent revenge and revelation converge in the shadow of the Black Loch.©2024 Peter May (P)2024 Penguin Audio

I have nothing but praise for the Black Loch. The writing is superlative and the marriage of Peter Forbes narration with a great story makes it an extraordinary experience.

I believe I've listened to all the Peter May / Peter Forbes books to date. They are all at the top end of the story telling craft. I particularly enjoyed the conversation at the end between the two.

Peter May / Peter Forbes: perfection

Well Peter May and Peter Forbes this has been an amazing collaboration between the two of you. I finished The Black Loch at 2am and when I woke up I had to listen to the last five minutes of the story again. Absolutely no spoilers. The research that the author must have undertaken for this book was mind boggling I really don’t want to give one thing away about this story but the people that have listened know what I’m talking about. Revisiting the island of Lewis was magical and getting to know all of the characters again was pure joy. After listening to the two Peters’ discussion at the end of the book it has made me want to start the trilogy plus 1 all over again. I have lots of books lined up in my library but I need to hear the warm inviting voice of Peter Forbes telling me once again about how Fin and Marsaili met. I need to hear how he describes the beauty and the bleakness of the island and how he evokes the emotions of the different characters with such skill. These books are a masterpiece from Peter May and I hope he can be persuaded to just write one more Lewis novel.

What a journey we’ve had.
