I felt like I was enrolled in Amery Academy, feeling the rain on my skin during the storms, and running for my life through the trials. I couldn't catch my breath until the last page, even then, I was left begging for more. An absolute must-read!

I really enjoyed this narration. There aren't many times I'm ok with just one narrator, but this voice actor kept me on the edge of my seat, and I barely took any notice about the character voices. So that means she did a great job!👏

This is a dystopian fantasy set in Manhattan that is now surrounded by water, navigated by gondolas as it's been built to look like 'Venice of old'.

Poet, our fmc, has been raised by a cowed mother and physically abusive father!🥺 Their society is extremely strict, and he is one it's 'House Scions'.😠

She's finally able to go off to an elite academy, but even then, her father insists on what subjects she's allowed to take. She's also been betrothed to a guy who's turning into someone very much like him.💔

Poet accidently rebels by refusing fight 'to the d€ath' a convict and pledges to a different House, which doesn't go down well!👀 However, she starts to find who she's always wanted to be, finally. Her best friends all start to shun her. But a couple of the 'lower class' kids, one in particular, is Rook, the hot guy from the Wastes, who all accept her for who she is now becoming.🫶

This is a gripping, emotive, and raw story. It's brutal and shines a light on the worst of what humanity can often show of itself. There are some wonderful sparks of goodness throughout that keep our hopes alive!🙏🏼😍

I can't wait for book 2.⚡️❤️‍🔥
