this book would be better with another narrator.
the reason I have bought another book and will probably buy the whole series is, that Dudley Pope is in my opinion a great author in the Ramage and York series

could be better

While the details of life in the navy of the period are very convincing, the narrator was not good with female characterisations. Male characters are very good, but the main female character ( an intelligent, courageous young woman) becomes a whining creature that is difficult to identify from the text.

Good story marred by narration

If you could sum up Ramage in three words, what would they be?

Napoleonic naval warfare

What other book might you compare Ramage to, and why?

Julian Stockwins Thomas Kydd series, they are written in the same era and similar situational placing, Hornblower characters, which I like.

What does Steven Crossley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He has reasonable characterisation and good narration inflections for the different situations almost on a parr with Christian Rodska and that is a compliment.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Hornblower returns

A good book on the parr with Stockwins Thomas Kydd
