They’re called the Outsiders, and they’re here for a good time. Humanity’s time.

When the apocalypse kicks off hundreds of years too early, the System is still asleep and Earth quickly becomes a chaotic mess of pop-up Dungeons and roaming monsters. With the alien invaders treating the planet’s destruction as a resource-gathering fire sale, things are looking bleak.

Connor Keene hoped being shot in the line of duty would be the only low point of his day.

Then he died, and that sucked. But now, he’s been resurrected with a powerful new Class, the Punisher, and a mission to hunt down the invaders. The catch? Being a Punisher marks him as a pariah to the very people he's trying to protect. He has the power to fight back and perhaps help save Earth, but the whole world will hate him for it.

His only backup is an overly cheerful System Sprite who might be insane, a partner sharing her mind with an alien assassin murder-lizard, and a Crafter whose gear mostly doesn’t explode.

It’s time to punish the System before it blue-screens Earth for good.

A great first book from the author and another great book from Soundbooth

I was gripped from the start as this one does not start like your usual LitRPG books. it's not often that someone comes into their powers by mistake.

the back forth between the sprites and humans is fantastic and what I love even more is the book being set in the UK, hearing all the local references.

definitely one to pick up.

a great variation in a theme

This was a very enjoyable book which hooked me from the start. There is very British sense of humour within full of snark and wit.
looking forward to the story continuing and cannot overstate thst soundbooth theatre elevated the story to another level of immersion.

thoroughly enjoyable new favourite

Soundbooth theatre have another fantastic performance on their hands. The story was well written and after the first hour paced nicely. It was nice to hear places I recognised in the story which was a highlight. Would recommend this thoroughly

This was a very interesting story, with the main hook being that this explored a litrpg world where the "system" that governs all the game rules does not (fully) exist yet. I really enjoyed the relatively slow build up in this book, actually, because you get to see a slow transition from real world rules to game rules at the same time as the story world does.

I thought that all the characters were great, and varied enough that they are each interesting, especially our core trio.

But I think what really elevates this book, is the stellar performance by Jack Fields and the rest of the cast. Like with a lot of Soundbooth productions, these guys can take a story that is a 3 or a 4 (although this one is at the top end for me) on its own and elevate it to a 5 star listen purely on the strength of their performances.

If you're at least even a little interested in the premise, I guarantee that the performances here will easily get you in the rest of the way. And while the book does end with a hook for the second book, this one very much tells a complete arc in the story, so feel free to jump in right away.

A different perspective
