Summary
My name is Teddy O'Connor, and I just made a terrible mistake. It's been six years since I was an intern for the Jacksonville Rays NHL team. And it's been six long years since I first met him. Henrik Karlsson, star forward of the Rays...and king of my heart.
I'm a doctor now, a respected professional in my field. And Henrik doesn't even know I exist. So, you tell me why I'm risking everything to follow this man halfway around the world!
After receiving news of his sister's tragic death, Henrik must fly to Sweden to retrieve his young niece. She's injured and grieving, but a new hockey season is about to start. Henrik can't possibly care for her alone. In fact, the Swedish government won't let him. I'd be heartless not to help...right?
Well, that's what I told myself last week as I signed our Swedish marriage license. And it's what I'm telling myself now as the Rays PR Director stares us down. They want this marriage to look real. The team's public image, our jobs, and his niece's custody agreement all depend on it.
But my problem isn't that I don't love my new fake husband. God help me, my problem is that I do.
Contains mature themes.
i was so looking forward to this book i think ill try again on paperback as i think i was drowning out some of the story because of the accent
teddy narrative was an easier listen
not my favourite book in the series but I think I'll have to read rather than listen to enjoy the story
hmmm

I couldn't take the spicy scenes seriously with that accent but I did notice that the longer spicy scenes were read by Diontae so there was that saving grace. Diontae did a fabulous job when voicing both main characters. He especially brought Teddy to life.
Teddy is a great character, chaotic and full of life. I can tell that Emily put in a lot of time and effort to have the intricacies of having a black character be correct, which I appreciated. I did have to give out to him a few times at the beginning of the book because he kept forgetting that it's a fake marriage and getting mad at, or feeling hurt by Hendrick for not treating him like his actual husband. The dynamic with Caro was a delight to listen to. One day I'll read the book so I can get a different perspective to Hendrick's character. I just suffered through his chapters, the accent muted and dulled him and also made sound like he was a 50 year old man in comparison to Teddy's vibrancy.
Ruined by Swedish accent

Love this series, BUT…

When you have been waiting for a book it’s hard not to build expectations but have NO DOUBT that Dr Emily Rath rose to the occasion and absolutely smashed it out of the park!!
Teddy, Henrik and Karro are about to steal your heart so don’t try and fight it.
Henrik’s quiet, steady and stoic attitude is perfect contrast to Teddy’s loud, proud and chaotic, unbridled joy / theatrics. Between them they grow and thrive together but also figure out things about themselves along the way. Teddy learns how to stand up for himself and Henrik learns to allow people in. The added dynamic of having Karolina as part of their lives was a the perfect foundation to their partnership.
It was a joy to see all the other favs from the series and how all the characters support both Henrik and Teddy as they navigated their journey together. They added warmth and hilarious comedic moments to the plot [as you expect!!]
These book has buckets of emotions (seriously make sure you have tissues to hand and stay hydrated!!) I lost count of how many times I cried and my heart broke for all three of them. Emily wasn’t wrong when she says this book is slow burn with a ton of yearning because it certainly lived up to that!
I am not going to give spoilers but honestly these two rival my love for Caleb and Ilmari…[don’t tell them!]

Unfortunately, Tor Thom's wildly varied and inaccurate European accents while attempting to narrate Henrik (Northern Irish, Welsh, German and the Swedish Chef from the Muppets to name but a few) totally pulled me out of the story, to the point where I couldn't face listening to any more of it and had to finish the story by reading the ebook instead.
Having had a similar experience with his annoying narration of Kip in Rachel Reid's Game Changers but given him a second chance because of how much I was looking forward to this book, I will save myself the disappointment and avoid anything that he's narrating in future.
The narrator for Teddy was awesome though - such a shame that he wasn't paired with someone equally as compelling.
Save yourself the frustration and read the book instead
