About this listen

From the author of the million-copy selling The Chimp Paradox

How can we help our children:

  • become more resilient?
  • get over mistakes?
  • develop a positive outlook?

And, what can we do to become better role models?

Prof Steve Peters uses his Chimp Mind Management Model to help parents, teachers and carers understand the neuroscience behind unconscious beliefs and habits that may be silently guiding children's emotions, thinking and behaviours.

The Silent Guides explores ten positive habits and many related themes taken from the children's educational book My Hidden Chimp.

Prof Steve Peters helps challenge unhelpful behaviours such as:

  • being overly self-critical
  • fear of failure
  • low self-esteem

This is an important and groundbreaking new audiobook from the best-selling author of The Chimp Paradox and the creator of the chimp management mind model.

This was surprising content to me, and it definitely helped me understanding my kids' behaviour... at least a few times, which is a great help!
My personal experience going thru this book was also interesting - the book is mainly formed by 2 parts: a conceptual introduction; and the actual goal of the book, the practical real-life suggestions - and I would say that they are roughly half-half (not really but just to give an idea of weight balance)... but the fact is that the conceptual introduction was far more interesting to me than the practical guide... yeah, that is obviously a very personal way to see or apply it, probably proving that I personally missed many of those concepts, more than the practical experience handling it without the concepts, anyway interesting to note.
Great book, especially if you are a parent interested in children's neurocience.

Great sequel to The Chimp Paradox. Builds on concepts that can be applied to understanding children and how I can practise useful habits.

Excellent

If you have read The Chimp Paradox you will already know what to expect from this book, what differs here is the perspective that, while building on the chimp model, shifts to that of a child.

This book allows the reader to explore their childhood and, if a parent, the life of their children and in turn how to assist them make sense of their behaviours and interaction with the world.

As a bonus, an additional purchase provides children with an accompanying book allowing them to explore their mind and how to control it with the expert guidance of Prof Steve Peters through visual comic like illustrations.

Another great exploratory book from Prof Peters
