Now working as a Marshal, keeping the city and its people safe from supernatural dangers, Max thinks she's broken all ties to her past. She's just trying to do her job and live her life.

Asked to help local law enforcement with a series of vicious murders, Max is willing to assist but soon realizes that she might be next. Can she keep her secret while finding the killer?

Very well written, unusual but engaging story. The narration was excellent. Currently working my way through the series.

I read this when it when it first came out and proceeded to devour the entire series. Excellent story, riveting characters and a fantastic fantasy.

I've read this series several times, and decided to get the audio version as well. I'm just at the end of book 5, and have enjoyed them all. Max is a fine heroine - determined, honourable, capable - and the world building is interesting, with humans (mostly) surviving against "The Wild", a magical place populated by hungry, magical beasties that live to eat and kill humans. Max is part of the Marshall Service - the branch of law and order that takes care of any beastie that escapes the Wild into human territory. This first book introduces Max, her fine dogs, and a cast of supporting characters who work with, or interact with, Max. There is a romance that builds across the series, nicely done and all very chaste, but the main story lines are Max against the baddies - be the beasts or just plain bad people. She's survived a sort of hell, been betrayed and let down, and she just sticks to her guns and tries to do the right thing... as I said, a fine heroine.
This is set in a modern world, with cars and guns and mobile phones, but also magic, vampires, demons and the beasties.

Good series, well narrated

I cannot tell you how happy I am that this series of books are now on audible. I thoroughly enjoyed the telling of Outcast. The storyline I love. I thought the narrator was excellent and gave a credible scottish accent. Greatly looking forward to the next release but will read the book in the meantime.
