On her 12th birthday, Sierva Maria - the only child of a decaying noble family in an 18th-century South American seaport - is bitten by a rabid dog. Believed to be possessed, she is brought to a convent for observation. And into her cell stumbles Father Cayetano Delaura, who has already dreamed about a girl with hair trailing after her like a bridal train. As he tends to her with holy water and sacramental oils, Delaura feels something shocking begin to occur. He has fallen in love - and it is not long until Sierva Maria joins him in his fevered misery. Unsettling and indelible, Of Love and Other Demons is an evocative, majestic tale of the most universal experiences known to woman and man.

This was a good read but not my favourite GMM book. A bit heavy in places

Enjoyable but not the best GMM

Transported to another time and place courtesy of Mr Marquez’ imagination and descriptive storytelling. Thoroughly enjoyed escaping with the characters - the good, the bad, and the downright holy!

Fine storytelling from Mr. Marquez

If this doesn’t move you, nothing will. It captures the essence of love.
The master narrates. I highly recommend.

I’ve read the book before so it didn’t ruin it for me, the narrator was fine until he pronounced names. Couldn’t the publisher find someone who was a native Spanish speaker. The name were very off putting

Narrator 😩

After reading numerous positive reviews of this book, I thought I’d give it listen. At no point did the plot grab my attention, I really couldn’t tell you what happened (not sure if that’s my problem or the book, but it didn’t help).

The performance, although clear and accurately pronounced, it felt flat and offered no depth as a storyteller. The voice never excited me.

All in all, a disappointment.

Flat story, flat performance
