About this listen

Ard and his anchors are off to the capital, but not without his Congratulations—you’re-a-mage horse. Ard has to figure out what it means to be a noble as he struggles with the politics of the capital, fierce beasts and even fiercer rivals. All the while a goddess slips into his household as the staff and works to watch over him and his mother.

Ard has his work cut out for him, but is the capital ready for him? He’s determined to make a mockery of fashion and see what all he can get away with as a not so subtle ‘screw you’ to the new rules he’s been placed under.

so I have been through most of the book now and chapter 12 latter half is for later on in the book amd some lines are repeated in the chapters

it might be me but some of the chapters are repeating themselves

chapter 24 has some editing errors where Ard is being taught multiplication only for the exact same lines repeat

otherwise it's a fun story and a great continuation of the series

Fun story, excellent narration

This is a fun addition to the Ards oath series: excellent narration and world building. however it feels lacking in terms of progress. a lot happens and some of that feels like it doesn't take advantage of the setup of the prior book. the politics is interesting, but instead of building on the potential two to three relationships the prior book set up we get a new girl who sidelines them all.

there is some excellent comedy here and Chris and Jessica play fantastically in delivering it. Ard sounds like a younger version of House with less cynicism and it works really well. in terms of character he shows growth. I just wish more actually moved forwards. this book feels like it is setting up more plot threads and I hope a few are resolved in the third book. amusingly, this is even mentioned, in how the first book delivered a lot of change and Ard even says he doesn't feel as if much more has happened!

on a technical note the audiobook needs another edit as a later chapter / excerpt appears early and is repeated later which throws you off.

lastly, I hope Bianca manages to get back into Ards life. I feel she has been wasted in this book and would have been an excellent counter to the OTHER princess.

great narration, world building plot

a good move towards a more humorous protagonist, engaging world with very solid lore crafting. feels like this one can go very far.

Sentar continues another series in style, just... don't eat the ice cream!
