Critic reviews

Such a great book that is relevant to more than just FBI negotiations: it's relevant to my relationship with my partner, to my business, to everything in between. It's relevant to all interactions I have with all humans, and that's testament to why it has sold so many copies worldwide. (Steven Bartlett, entrepreneur and host of the Diary of a CEO podcast)
Never Split The Difference is a guide to negotiation drawing on the lessons Voss learned when he was working as the FBI's lead hostage negotiator . . . he has the most amazing stories about dealing with criminals and terrorists. I love that all of his insights are really practical in day-to-day life too. (Jake Humphrey, presenter and co-author of HIGH PERFORMANCE)
Filled with insights that apply to everyday negotiations.
A brilliant book.
Negotiation, as someone once said, is 'the art of letting someone else have your own way'. It's an art well worth learning. And who better to learn from than Chris Voss, whose skills have saved lives and averted disaster?
As an FBI hostage negotiator, Chris Voss has come face-to-face with all sorts of criminals, including kidnappers, bank robbers, and terrorists. In this book, he teaches negotiation tactics that you can use even if your life depended on it.
A stupendous book.
A master of persuasion.
It's rare that a book is so gripping and entertaining while still being actionable and applicable, especially with business books. Every few pages I read, I found myself writing down negotiation tips and ideas I wanted to test with our sales team and clients.
Every so often, you read a book that becomes a part of you. For some, it's a childhood-defining series like Harry Potter. Others find themselves in poetry or memoirs. My recent pivotal read was Chris Voss's Never Split the Difference . . . He showed me the importance of selling solutions to customers' problems rather than simply features. Along the way, he refined my communication style in everything from high-stakes negotiations to cold emails.

The first few moments of the book feel a bit off, but it's worth waiting. After the initial sales pitch of his methods, the author gives what seems to be a rather sensible, if dramatic, list of techniques to get the most out of negotiations. It is not life changing, and a bit confusing at times, but definitely will teach you a few things. Performance itself was great, no issues there. Unfortunately, the nature of this kind of book is that I'd always prefer a physical copy to refer to afterwards.

Solid book, probably better on paper

Insightful stories and useful applications from a knowledgeable and experienced expert. I felt chapters were a good length and had good application to real life. Would be good to have in paper and some more tools to help practice techniques but overall a great listen.

Well worth the listen.
