Summary

NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE

From New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult, tells the “compelling” (USA TODAY) novel about a girl who sues her parents for the rights to her own body. Featuring fan favorite Jesse, who appears in the upcoming novel Hollow Bones.

Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate—a life and a role that she has never challenged...until now.

Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister—and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves.

A beautiful, heartbreaking, controversial, and honest book” (Booklist, starred review) My Sister’s Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child’s life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less? Should you follow your own heart, or let others lead you?

there was nothing wrong with this book that a little judicious editing wouldn't have improved. ld guessed what was going to happen and all in all, it was a little like trying to get away from someone who just won't stop talking

enjoyed but forty minutes too long

This was my first Jodi Picoult book and I was not disappointed! All of the characters are so well developed that you actually care what is happening to all of them all as they face this insurmountable challenge. The book will make you laugh out loud and cry. Would highly recommend.

An engaging, heartfelt, warm and tragic story

I could not stop listening to this story, usually I just listen while I'm driving during work but I kept my headphones on and listened whenever I could before and after work and I finished it in 4 days! There were some great analogies, but an over use of "they might as well have been speaking Greek" but maybe I just noticed it more as where I live Greek is the first language. The twist at the end caught me unaware, which was a real shock as I usually guess what's happening and there's some diverse and interesting information in the story.
Definitely recommend.

A Incredible Moral Dilema!

Been meaning to listen/ read this for a long time and it was worth it!
Great story and not what I expected just from watching the film… I really enjoyed it but it’s totally heartbreaking

Great story

This was one of those books written that will prove to be a future signpost by those affected by having a very sick sibling.

What started as a simple core blood donation ended up with a child being used for spare parts and when they argued risked being ostracised from the family.

My sympathy goes to those facing such a decision but this book will at least make those making decisions about children donating stop and think

It was a story that raises a lot of questions
