Summary

Years have passed since the last of the Dark Gods was defeated, and Lothion has entered an age of peace and prosperity. Mordecai’s oldest children have already begun to make a place for themselves, and his youngest are on the cusp of adulthood. By every outward measure, his life has been a success; he has earned his reward.

However, Tyrion, the first wizard and brutal liberator of mankind, has returned with an agenda of his own, and dark things continue to stir at the edges of civilization, threatening to undo Mordecai’s accomplishments.

He must meet the expectations of his queen, his family, and his people, all while finding a way to protect them from the ancient enemy of the She’Har, but his greatest challenge may be dealing with the lingering darkness that is growing within his own heart.

Much like the rest of the of the authors books, brilliant story and very captivating. narration has been pretty weak but good enough to not completely ruin the story.

great story

The story was only a little slow to start but once it did, what a ride. The characters draw you in as well as the story and the performance of Alex Wyndham

The last couple of books I have chosen have not been good. This one began slow and dissolved into a story line that didn’t appeal to me at all. Others may enjoy it, but I wouldn’t recommend this one.

Maybe I need a break from Audible

Having read a few of the author’s other books, I had high hopes. Unfortunately I felt like the whole thing was just a prologue and nothing ever really seemed to happen.

I appreciate that the characters have had their origin story and they are veterans - but because of that the world building fell a little flat. It felt forced. Rather than seeing (reading) their experience and history in a thousand little things, the readers gets struck in the face with a paragraph here and there of history. It took away from the immersion - in my opinion - and I just felt that it didn’t do justice to the rare concept of experienced, older characters.

The conflict also didn’t feel like it had any sense of urgency. Everything that cropped up, he could handle. Again, expected with a veteran character, but then it would have been better if it had developed into an actual threat at some point but by the time the big enemy is there and the political situation is getting worse the book ends.

So yeah, underwhelming.

Great narration though.

Read like a prologue
