About this listen

A shocking, heart-rending and blisteringly funny account of what it's like to live with mental illness, by a powerful new comic voice.

When Michelle Thomas suffered her first major depressive episode six years ago, she read and watched and listened to everything about mental health she could get her hands on in an effort to fix herself. God, it was tedious. And, quite frankly, depressing.

Which is the last thing she needed.

What she did need was a therapist who would listen and offer a wellness strategy catered to her specific needs. What she got was advice to watch a few YouTube videos and a cheerful reminder that 'it could be worse'.

An honest, hilarious and heart-rending account of living with mental illness, My Sh*t Therapist will help you navigate the world, care for your mind and get through sh*t diagnoses, jobs, medications, boyfriends, habits, homes and therapists.

You'll find no scented candles or matcha tea 'cures' for mental illness here. Instead, learn how a modern woman and her friends and followers navigate life with their brilliant but unpredictably sh*t brains.

This book is literally a life saver. If you’ve had depression, anxiety or actually just feel a bit low sometimes - with humour, insight and brutal honesty you’ll find not only yourself in this book but hope.

Thank you for finding the strength to give words to what so many of us feel and helping me to hold on

What a book!

Got this on the daily deal but was just average really. Thought I might return it as it just wasn’t for me but stuck with it as I work with young people who experience ill mental health and I was hoping this would give some insight - but it didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know. Wish I could’ve sent it on to someone else who might appreciate it rather than suck up the small cost I paid or return for a refund and wish there was another option offered via audible.
I found there was unnecessary swearing for me personally and just wasn’t what I was expecting despite reading the varied reviews but that’s personal choice. I didn’t request a refund because I only paid a small price and felt bad that the author wouldn’t get their cut but did feel this would’ve been better suited to a free pod cast than a “book”

Not what I thought it would be

I listened to this on audible and I'd really recommend it if you enjoy audio books. Listening to Michelle's words feels like talking to an old friend, and her lilting welsh accent is very soothing.
She helped me to feel less alone in my own struggles with mental health but it wasn't heavy. It was light, and comforting. I think we all struggle with mental health at some point and this helps give us a little insight into what others may experience, and in my experience helped it all feel a bit less daunting.

Soothing

Michelle is amazing, she conveys exactly what we need to hear. this should be on the reading list for every therapist out there to help assist and guide those looking for help.
I laughed and cried, please never stop writing and sharing Michelle

Everyone should read/listen to this book

When she started roaring at the leaf I've lost it. It's not a groundbreaking piece, but it didn't have to be. It is a great, amusing, relatable, down to earth journal that helps normalizing mental health issues. Loved it. Highly recommend for a light read.
