In April 1992 a young man from a well-to-do family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. His name was Christopher Johnson McCandless. He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself...

A great listen, some beautiful additions in here that really make you feel like you knew Chris in a way. Definitely check out Carine McCandless’ book The Wild Truth too, it’s a perfect companion to this book.

Will definitely listen again.

As close as you’ll get to being on the road with Chris

I probably won’t be the first to listen to this after seeing the film, and took a while waiting for the Chris Mccandless story as I expected it would purely be about him.

However you are met with a more personal account from Krakauer on his experiences and how they may have similarities. On conclusion to the book I feel it’s a nice touch, definitely would recommend.

Interesting coverage

Excellent book. Well read. just some mistakes in editing where some phrases are repeated. This happens 3-4 times throughout the book. Other than that, highly recommend the content.

A must read for outdoor enthusiasts.

The story is well read for the most part, although when the narrator puts on a slight feminine accent for the parts spoken by females it kind of takes you out of the moment. It would have been better to have a female voice those parts. Otherwise a good solid listen.

Interesting story, not the same connection as the actual book
