John Lee
Summary
Fleeing the 'wolves' - the xenocidal alien machines known as Inhibitors - he has protected his family and community from attack for forty years, sheltering in the caves of an airless, battered world called Michaelmas. The slightest hint of human activity could draw the wolves to their home, to destroy everything ... utterly. Which is how Miguel finds himself on a one-way mission with his own destructive mandate: to eliminate a passing ship, before it can bring unwanted attention down on them.
Only something goes wrong.
There's a lone survivor.
And she know far more about Miguel than she's letting on...
Ranging from the depths of space to the deeps of Pattern Juggler waters, from nervous, isolated communities to the ruins of Empire, this is a stealthy space opera from an author at the top of his game.

I'm fond of John Lee too, but his delivery can get a bit grating. It sometimes sounds as if Will Shatner and David Bowie had a lovechild who had been brought up watching english black and white films from the 40s. Sorry, John..
I don't regret investing my time here though. 7/10
Love the universe, but..

This universe is past its best

It’s easy to get lost in the book, again part of the attraction, but it is also somewhat annoying to zone out from it, then to reapply oneself to the narrative, and to be faintly aware that one hasn’t really missed anything of significance.
What is needed, definitely, is a stronger repetition of key plot aspects that fundamentally drive on the narrative. Too often these are lost in the morass of often overblown and unnecessary detail.
But the narration was uniformly good, and given the foregoing comments the general sense one if left with is having enjoyed “a good read”. But a good editor would have been even more appreciated.
Overlong

Awesome! Best sci-fi series I’ve ever listened to.
