Given that I read this one about a month or so ago and just downloaded Book 9 I think it's fair to say that I am a fan of this grand old series. I first read them as a teenager and into my early twenties which is more years ago than I care to remember, sometimes these days I feel as old as the characters in these books!

And I think that's the great thing about historical fiction, it tends to age better than most types of books for obvious reasons. I enjoyed this one pretty much as well as I did back then, plenty of action, likeable characters and the open seas!

Excellent narration by Michael Jayston, delivers the story perfectly. The novel, as usual is hard to put down.

I always enjoy the series. It's a great, relaxing, exciting read or listen while I’m drifting off to sleep. It's not too intense, but the storyline is great, and it's well worth a listen.
