I haven't read these books in a while, so listening to them is almost like coming across them for the first time.
I should say that I'm the 68 year old grandmother of an Esme, and a Discworld fan of 30+ years. They were written for older children but they never felt written down. I shall be sliding a boxset onto my Esme's shelf as she turns 14. They deal with good and evil in an adult way.
The characters are old friends and a joy to catch up with here.
Indira Varma is a wonderful narrator. As with her other Witches audiobooks, she gives them gravitas and depth, as they are written. The previous narrator treated the books as comedy which was, quite frankly, an abomination. Things are set right here.
Steven Cree is brilliant and every feegle stands clear. Bill Nighy is perfect for the footnotes, as ever. He has the same tone as I always read them (in my head) in Sir Terry's voice. Peter Serafinowicz manages to give Death a voice we feel, rather than hear, and gives me goosebumps.
The stories are as good as I remember, whirling in myth and fairy to real life as we live it, here and now, as the Discworld always did. As solid and real a world as ours.
The appendix made me cry, although that is a common thing with Pratchett. Laughter and heartbreak. It may be that the fifth book was a difficult one to face at the time, and sat unread for a long while after the great man's, and my own father's, death. Now I face the audio version in my listening quest, knowing what it holds.
I always felt Sir Terry put a lot of himself into Granny Weatherwax and I adore her.
Tiffany Aching's stories are done magnificently here. Well done Audible.

Indira Varma does such an excellent job of bringing these stories to life. Her voicing of the characters makes them utterly believable - including the men, which enables the story to flow.

Coupled with the excellent writing, a great piece of escapism!

These are just such good adaptations. The narration and voices are spot on. I loved the Stephen Briggs ones but these just go above and beyond
