About this listen

Will you do my eulogy?

With those words, Mitch Albom begins his long-awaited return to non-fiction. His journey to honour the last request of a beloved clergyman ultimately leads him to rekindle his own long-ignored faith.

Albom spends years exploring churches and synagogues, the suburbs and the city, the 'us' versus 'them' of religion.

Slowly, he gravitates to an inner-city pastor of a crumbling church that houses the homeless, and is stunned at how similar belief can be. As his own beloved cleric slowly lets go, Albom writes his final farewell, having learned that a faithful heart comes in many forms and places.©2009 Mitch Albom Incorporated

This is one of the most beautiful real world experiences of normal faith... faith that isn't blind, for at times it hurts to much.

I had seen the film starring Bradley Whitford and it made me want to read the book. This is the story of two good men whose vastly different lives had some fascinating similarities. The book is written in such a way that you feel as though the main characters are people of your own acquaintance.
It reduced me to tears and made me very thoughtful.
Mitch Ablom writes in a very readable fashion and the lilt of his voice reading his own words is easy on the ears.
I will listen to this Audible version again.
It is a book that will stay with you.

My friend chose this at book club and apologised to me when we started reading as she thought I would hate it. She couldn't have been more wrong! This is a very heartwarming take of humanity and of what it is to be a good human, despite our individual faith or belief system. I really enjoyed this book and I can see myself coming back to it in the future.

Faith in humanity.
