On 28 May 1982, 450 men of the 2nd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment - 2 Para - went into action to retake the settlement of Goose Green on East Falkland, where more than 1,000 Argentine soldiers were holding 119 Falkland Islanders - men, women, children and one baby - in squalid conditions.

The story of Goose Green is legendary, 2 Para fought a hard battle and won, despite terrible losses. The accounts gathered by the author are remarkable, but they are unfortunately ruined by a terrible narrator who tries and fails to give each man a different voice, attempting various accents, all of which sound the same. Not sure if he's Irish, Scottish, Liverpudlian or anything in between. It's a real shame, as this is a great book.

Definitely worth a listen, if you can put up with the theatrics. But not as good as James O’Connell’s account of 3 Para’s attack on Mount Longdon in the same war.

Great account, terrible performances

The author states near the beginning of the book how although the blokes were fighting no more than a few metres from each other they had no idea what their mates were doing or going through. This book gives a powerful account of the individual experiences of many of them, stories never heard or shared before. An excellent book with doubtless hours of research and commitment in getting others experiences out about what 2 Para did at Goose Green. By far the best book I’ve read on the conflict!

Great account of events by many different people was truly a great listen too for me as a fan of military history and the Falkland’s is left out of the limelight but bigger historical events like ww2. Overall some truly great personal stories from men who did it and seen it and tell all, some funny some sad and all real.
