Summary

The book is an introduction to the Chicago series.

Alyssa Masters had been accused of a horrible crime she didn’t commit and was now the most hated woman in America. She’d lost people she’d loved, her credibility, and a part of her life. To get it back on track, she returns home to live with her mother, and has all but given up on any hope at a normal life.

Hannah Granger had been off exploring the world and finding herself, only to return home to lose her mother and a lot of what she’d found out about herself while away. When the two women meet, they discover they can help find what they’d lost and uncover more of what they could have in their lives as they attempt to navigate a complicated situation and deal with the baggage they both bring with them.

Great concept but it was full of boring filler moment.
strange from this author as she's one of the best.
This feels like a book that was written fast to fulfill a contract.

the relationship moves fast but the story is slow.

to happiness, great story as I've come to expect from Nicole, each audible release elevates her to joint top author in genre.
circumstances of wrongful arrest, murder of a child, could be upsetting to some.
only one flaw in narration is lack of accent to separate characters, especially longer conversations, otherwise liked her delivery.

I enjoyed this story because the storyline was not the usual lesbian romance trope. It kept me intrigued, wanting to find out what would happen next and unfolds at a good pace. The author also gives us interesting characters, who I could not help but care about. Unfortunately though, the occasionally clunky writing and editing plus the narrator - who does not give each character their own voice and regularly creates confusion for the listener as a result - let the story down overall. However, I found it a very enjoyable listen nevertheless.

An unusual and interesting lesbian romance
