About this listen

The Fens are burning, and Detective Nikki Galena faces a cat-and-mouse battle with a killer arsonist. Someone is lighting fires. First they target homes and businesses, but then a body is found at one of the crime scenes. More fires are lit. And at each one a single person dies. But the victims have led spotless lives, and apparently there's no connection between them.

This series of books is very good but the narrators accents are terrible, the way she says Joseph just grates on you throughout the book, feels like the accent is too broad and put on. The story is excellent and I have listened to other books in the series too.

How did this writer manage to fly under my radar for so long? Every story I have listened so far (I am going through the series ), has been excellent. However the same cannot be said for the narration, ah well you can’t have everything!

…really jars! It’s such a shame; Joy Ellis uses some excellent vocabulary, HM simply can’t pronounce too much of it: somebody please tell her how to pronounce SOCO (like sock-o, not so-co), beloved (belove-ed), frequented (Fre-QUENT-ed), and so and so on! Is there no editing/research/rehearsal? It’s driving me nuts! If I didn’t enjoy the stories so much, I would have given up. I certainly won’t be listening to anything else she reads.

very twisted tale for Nikki and Joseph and the whole gang to sort out. all Joy's characters are beautifully defined and characterised with style and the trails set in motion with definitive accuracy great but easy to follow. I will be very sorry to get to the end of the series very soon. please write some more Joy as they really are a joy to read!!

brilliant as always

I enjoyed the book but it felt a bit rushed and didn't have the multi thread mysteries of previous books in series. it started one- the Luciferian cult- but it fizzled out to nothing making me think author had had to finish book in a hurry to meet a deadline! That's when you know an author is just churning them out and quality drops.
