About this listen

Loyalty to your people. Loyalty to Rome. Only one can remain...

Centurion Faustus Valerianus has already proven his bravery and skill, marching alongside Julius Agricola for six gruelling years to conquer the north of Britain. But that was just the beginning...

With Agricola back in Rome, Faustus is given a new mission: to journey to Hibernia with exiled Irish prince Tuathal Techtmar and help him reclaim his rightful throne.

But victory is a fleeting thing, and back in Caledonia, fears grow that the land won so convincingly may soon slip away as Rome’s control and influence are at greater risk than ever before.

When events cascade towards a devastating battle, Faustus must finally come to terms with his heritage, resolve his complicated love for a British woman, and lay his father’s shadow, still haunting him from the afterworld, to rest, once and for all.

Will Faustus emerge victorious once again?

An aching, poignant tale of love, family and warfare in the age of Rome, perfect for fans of Ben Kane, Alex Gough, and Andrew Frediani.

Amanda Cockrell, writing as Damion Hunter, is the author of seven previous Roman novels: the four-volume series The Centurions. She grew up in Ojai, California, and developed a fascination with the Romans when a college friend gave her Rosemary Sutcliff’s books to read.

Story was ok but pace was very pedestrian really enjoyed book one while waiting for Simon Scarrows latest instalment second book didn’t grab my attention as well as the first. At some points the story felt disjointed bouncing around the characters.

Still having said all that is still want to pick up another in the series and hear how the protagonist fares as Rome exits northern Britannia

Not as gripping as first in series

Loved the historical detail, Plot seemed a bit rambling and assuming we knew the motives

A rather random plot

Great plot, well told by the narrator, and just enough balance between battles, plots, characters and their relationships. looking forward to the next audio book.

Great story, and follow up to the 1st book
